A blog about Lindsborg

Welcome to Lindsborg Town Talk, your source for news about upcoming events and activities in Lindsborg.

Good Morning! Today marks the day Lindsborg Celebrates Midsummers! Activities begin in about an hour, at 9:30 in Swensson Park. Admission is 5$, with kids under 12 free.

This festival, which welcomes the arrival of the summer solstice, is one of the most popular of all Swedish holidays and is celebrated world wide.

This year, Lindsborg’s Midsummer’s Festival is bigger and better than ever. There’s so much going on I can only cover the highlights!

So, for more detailed information, goto midsummersday.org.

As usual, the Lindsborg youth and adult Swedish dancers will perform. But, in a twist, after their initial performances, the audience will be invited to participate. That’s always a lot of fun.

New this year, visitors will experience a quaint Swedish village, featuring artists studios, settlers homes, a storyteller’s den and a homemaker’s kitchen.

There will also be a children’s area with crafts, games and story-telling.

Two special guests will be featured: author Kathy Bernstrom and musician and story-teller John Berquist.

Other activities include a style show at the adjacent Bethany Lutheran Church.

In the northern part of Swensson Park the Volvo Car Club of America will host their regional rally; there will be a wide variety of Volvos on display, including one that has close to 3 million miles!

Visitors to Lindsborg are invited to join in a new event this year, the Midsummer’s Interlude, in downtown Lindsborg from 4 until 7pm. There will be live music, featuring the band known as Mainstreet, Swedish food, games and shopping. While enjoying the interlude, folks can judge maypole entries created by many local businesses.

After that, folks are encouraged to head down to the Swedish Pavilion near the old Mill for the traditional raising of the Maypole, followed by traditional Swedish dances.

Lindsborg’s Midsummers celebration begins at 9:30 in Swensson Park, today, June 21st. Admission is 5$, with kids under 12 free.
