A blog about Lindsborg

Welcome to Lindsborg Town Talk, your source for news about upcoming events and activities in Lindsborg.

The Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers are hosting a Swedish pancake feed and auction. The event is happening right now, Saturday, March 8th; it began at 8am and lasts until noon, so there’s still plenty of time to head over to the commons area at Smoky Valley High. The event is part of dancers’ fundraising efforts to raise money for a trip to Sweden in June. Besides the wonderful food, there will be a silent auction, a live auction, plus a Swedish edition of the game show Deal or no Deal.

This evening the Smoky Valley High School drama department will present the classic comedy, Arsenic and Old Lace. The play begins at 7:30pm in the Smoky Valley Auditorium; tickets are 5$ for adults and 2$ for students.

David Perez Sacach, from Guatemala, is the current Artist in Residence at the Red Barn Studio. He works as a painter and photographer, and will focus on photography during his time at the Red Barn. A reception will be held for David tonight, March 8th, at 7pm at the Red Barn Studio.

Next Tuesday, March 11th, the Smoky Valley High School Choirs will present a concert at 7:30pm in the Smoky Valley Auditorium. A variety of choirs will perform, including the Freshman Chorus, the Chorus Women and the Madrigals. The Smoky Valley High School Brass Ensemble and String Octet will also perform. It promises to be a night of wonderful music and performances!

On March 20th, folks will have a chance to learn more about the composers and music that make up part of the Messiah Festival of Music and Art. Starting at 10:30 at Lindquist Hall, this free presentation by Michael Shasberger will discuss how the faiths of Handel and Bach influenced the music that is performed during the Messiah Festival.

The Messiah Festival of Music and Art begins on Palm Sunday and runs through Easter Sunday. Tickets are still available for all performances, Handel’s Messiah on Palm and Easter Sunday, and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion on Good Friday. Visit the Bethany College website for more information.
