A blog about Lindsborg

Hello everyone,

This Saturday, the 28th of April, Lindsborg area artists are hosting the 11th annual Artists Studio Open House. Many area studios will be open to the public from 11am until 7pm and everyone is invited to drop in and see the artists at work. One of the special things about the Artists Studio Open House is the wide variety of art on display. Everything from painting, photography, sculpture and weaving to woodworking, carving and jewelry design, plus more!

And then, at 8pm, the Heart of America Big Band will perform in the gymnasium at Soderstrom Elementary. Admission to the Artists Studio Open House is free, and a freewill donation is appreciated at the Big Band concert.

While you’re in town for the Artists Studio Open House, be sure to drop by the Lindsborg Library, where the Friends of the Lindsborg Library will be holding their annual book sale from 10am until 6pm. This is a great opportunity to pick up some new reading material and help a great cause at the same time.

Remember, the Lindsborg area Artists Studio Open house is this Saturday, from 11am until 7pm. A full list of participating studios may be obtained from many downtown Lindsborg merchants.

And, it’s just one week until the annual Millfest Celebration! The past comes to life Saturday and Sunday, May 5th and 6th, at the Old Mill Museum in Lindsborg with Millfest 2007. This unique event celebrates the Kansas heritage with tours of the 1898 Smoky Valley Flour mill, demonstrations of traditional arts, great food and lively musical entertainment.

The flour mill only operates once a year, so the public is encouraged to take this opportunity to see the mill in action. Mill tours are limited to those age 13 and above, due to safety reasons.

This year Millfest is featuring its largest musical lineup ever, including bluegrass, country, gospel and more.

Tickets for Millfest are 2$ for adults and 1$ for children over age 6.

Till next week, this is Mike Rodriquez with the Lindsborg Update.

Hello everyone,

This Sunday, come enjoy the fine choral singing provided by the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus. They are performing at 7pm at Presser Hall on the Bethany College campus. Now in their 38th year, the choir has raised more than 1/2 million dollars in that time. Admission to the concert is a freewill donation, with the proceeds going to the Mennonite Central Committee, which sends food around the world. The group’s motto is “We sing that others may live.” Well, who can’t get behind that?

Oh, and congratulations are in order for this year’s Hyllningsfest Royalty, Ken and Marilyn Sjogren. Hyllningsfest is October 12th through 14th this year, and we’ll have plenty of info as the time draws closer.

One of the cool things about the Red Barn Studio’s Artist in Residence program is that many artists return again and again. Returning artist Sandy Milroy continues that tradition with her 4th residency at the Red Barn. Sandy will continue her work using collage techniques during her stay, which lasts until April 30th.

Speaking of artists, it’s just one week until the 11th annual Lindsborg Area Artists Studio Open House. On Saturday, April 28th, many area studios will be open from 11am until 7pm. This is really a special opportunity to see artists working in their studios, on a variety of media ranging from painting to photography, with almost every other imaginable art form in-between.

And then, at 8pm, the Heart of America Big Band will perform in the gymnasium at Soderstrom Elementary. Admission to the Artists Studio Open House is free, and a freewill donation is appreciated at the Big Band concert.

While you’re in town for the Artists Studio Open House, be sure to drop by the Lindsborg Library, where the Friends of the Lindsborg Library will be holding their annual book sale from 10am until 2pm. This year, the FOLL has received a matching grant for the first $750 dollars in books that are sold; this is a great opportunity to pick up some new reading material and help a great cause at the same time.

Looking ahead a little bit, we’ve got the Mill Fest coming up in early May, the 4th through the 6th, and then the weekend of June 16th, it’s time for the 31st annual celebration of Midsummer’s Day. Come hear the Swedish rock band Tiny Toads, and enjoy traditional Swedish dances, great food, an arts and crafts fair and more.
