A blog about Lindsborg

Welcome to Lindsborg Town Talk, your source for news about upcoming events and activities in Lindsborg.

Good morning! Today is the day of Lindsborg’s annual city-wide garage sale. The event started at 8 this morning, and lasts till at least mid-afternoon. Over 25 families are participating and maps are available at the Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce.

Well, it’s just two weeks until Lindsborg celebrates Midsummer’s Day on Saturday, June 21st. This festival, held to celebrate the beginning of summer, is one of the most popular of all Swedish celebrations and is celebrated world wide. Lindsborg’s celebration, always an enjoyable event, will see a number of changes this year.

Yes, the Swedish dancers will still perform, but in addition this year’s event will feature new events and activities designed to embrace Lindsborg’s Swedish heritage and to involve festival attendees more intimately in the celebration.

New this year, visitors will experience a quaint Swedish village, featuring artists studios, settlers homes, a storyteller’s den and a homemaker’s kitchen.

There will also be a children’s area with crafts, games and story-telling.

In addition to performances by both the youth and adult Swedish dancers, two special guests will be featured: author Kathy Bernstrom and musician and story-teller John Berquist.

Other activities include a style show at the adjacent Bethany Lutheran Church.

In the northern part of Swensson Park the Volvo Car Club of America will host their regional rally; there will be a wide variety of Volvos on display.

Visitors to Lindsborg are invited to join in a new event this year, the Midsummer’s Interlude, in downtown Lindsborg from 4 until 7pm. There will be live music, featuring Mainstreet, food, games and shopping.

After that, folks are encouraged to head down to Swedish Pavilion near the old Mill for the traditional raising of the Maypole, followed by traditional Swedish dances.

Lindsborg’s Midsummer’s celebration begins at 9:30 in Swensson Park on June 21st.

till next time, this is Mike Rodriquez with Lindsborg Town Talk.
