The circus is coming; the circus is coming!

Yes, it’s true. The circus is coming to Lindsborg!

On Friday, May 23rd, for one day only, the Culpepper & Meriweather Circus will return to the Smoky Valley for two performances, at 5pm and 7:30pm.

The shows will be in a three-section Big Top tent set up in the 300 block of East Lincoln street in Lindsborg. Advance tickets are available at 8$ for adults, 6$ ages 2-12 and under 2 are free. Tickets will be available the day of the circus at 11$ for adults and 7$ for kids, so it’s definitely worth getting your tickets early.

Also, the circus is sponsored by the Lindsborg Kiwanis club, and proceeds from advance ticket sales help provide funds for a variety of Kiwanis-sponsored civic, youth and charitable projects.

The day of the circus promises to be an exciting one. Starting around 9:30am is the raising of the circus tent. After the tent is raised, tours will be available. Then, starting at 4pm, the midway opens for rides, concessions, the moon bounce and more.

Then from 5 until 6:30 and again from 7:30 until 9, there will be 2 performances under the big top.

This year’s lineup includes an all-star group of performers and entertainers who are bound to delight audience members of all ages.

The program includes performing camels, a high-wire act, an actual dog and pony show, circus clowns and more.

This weekend marks the return of Millfest! The past comes to life during Millfest! Held at the Old Mill in Lindsborg, this unique event celebrates our Kansas heritage with tours of the 1898 Smoky Valley Flour Mill, arts and crafts demonstrations, great food and live music!

The festivities begin at 9am, today, and continue until 5pm. On Sunday, Millfest is happening from from noon till 5. That’s this weekend, May 3rd & 4th. Admission price is 2$ for adults, 1$ for kids aged 6-12 and free for children under 6.

The highlight of Millfest is the opportunity to see the mill in operation. It only operates once a year, so don’t miss it! Tours begin every 10 minutes starting at 9:30 on Saturday, and noon on Sunday.

For safety reasons, only folks above age 13 may take the tour when the mill is operating. A first floor viewing area outside the mill is setup for families with younger ones. Once the machinery is turned off, families may tour the mill with their younger ones.

There will also be demonstrations about daily life and work in the pioneer area, and the arts area will feature artists dedicated to preserving traditions of the past. During Millfest you can enjoy demonstartions and sales of crafts like woodcarving, quiliting, wheatweaving and more.

For your musical entertainment, on Saturday various performers will serenade the crowd with lively traditional tunes. On Sunday you can hear Dulcimers, etc and the Flatland String Band.
