Today marks the occasion of one of the special joys of living in or visiting Lindsborg. It’s time for the 12th annual Artists Studio Open House. Artists from around Lindsborg will open their studios to the public from 10am until 5pm. This provides a unique opportunity to visit with artists in their working environment, watching as art is created before your eyes! The Artists Studio Open House in Lindsborg is sponsored by the Raymer Society for the Arts and the Lindsborg Arts Council. Call 227-2217 for more information. Refreshments will be served at most studios.

The Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery is pleased to host a show of porcelain ceramics by Seattle potter Loren Lukens. The show, Contemporary Variations, opens May 2nd and runs through June 29th. Lukens is also the juror of Kansas Collegiate Aesthetics, an exhibition of two and three-dimensional art created by Kansas college students which runs through June 29th. Lukens is known for his unique ceramic creations, and this promises to be an interesting display of his works.

And next weekend marks the return of Millfest! Held at the Old Mill in Lindsborg, this unique event celebrates our Kansas heritage with tours of the 1898 Smoky Valley Flour Mill, great food and live music!

The festivities begin at 9am on Saturday, running through 5pm, and then again on Sunday from noon till 5. That’s next weekend, May 3rd & 4th. Admission price is 2$ for adults, 1$ for kids aged 6-12 and free for children under 6.

The highlight of Millfest is the opportunity to see the mill in operation. It only operates once a year, so don’t miss it! For safety reasons, only folks above age 13 may take the tour when the mill is operating. A first floor viewing area outside the mill is setup for families with younger ones.

Another highlight of next weekend is the Millfest Bake-off, Saturday May 4th. Judging takes place at 2pm and wonderful prizes are available for winners in 3 categories. Registration and general information about Millfest may be obtained by calling 785 227 3595.
