A blog about Lindsborg

Hello everyone,

This weekend it’s time for the annual Millfest Celebration! The past comes to life Saturday and Sunday, May 5th and 6th, at the Old Mill Museum in Lindsborg with Millfest 2007. This unique event celebrates the Kansas heritage with tours of the 1898 Smoky Valley Flour mill, demonstrations of traditional arts, great food and lively musical entertainment.

Part of what makes this weekend special is the chance to tour the old mill while it operates. The flour mill only operates once a year, so the public is encouraged to take this opportunity to see the mill in action. Tours start every 10 minutes. Mill tours are limited to those age 13 and above, due to safety reasons, but there is a special viewing area for those 12 and under. Also, once the machinery is turned off at 5pm, guides will provide a special tour for those under age 13.

This year Millfest is featuring its largest musical lineup ever, including bluegrass, country, gospel and more. On Saturday performers include Allen Macfarlane, Princess Harris, and the duo of Lynn Young and Anne Crane. On Sunday Crystal Creek will perform, along with Thad Beach, the Lindsborg Youth Choir and a return performance by Princess Harriss. The music ends with the Hieberts, Dulcimers, etc. group.

Lindsborg’s Millfest features more than music and the mill; there is a Pioneer Arts Festival featuring pottery, wood carving and wood working, rope making, quilting, bobbin lace, wheat weaving and home-made jellies.

Other attractions include viewing of vintage tractors and steam engines, a Pioneer Toys display, covered wagon rides and a chuckwagon display. On Sunday, Steve’s British Motorcycle Museum will have a display of vintage motorcycles.

And bring your appetite to Millfest and chow down on Buddy’s BBQ and homemade ice cream and old-fashioned root beer.

That’s all this weekend, May 5th and 6th at the Old Mill in Lindsborg.

Tickets for Millfest are 2$ for adults and 1$ for children over age 6.
