A blog about Lindsborg

Listen to the podcast of the Lindsborg Update from the 21st of April 2006 simply by clicking the previous link. The Lindsborg Update is a podcast of a weekly bit I do on a local radio station, KSAL 1150AM. The Lindsborg Update usually airs on Fridays, a couple of minutes after 12:30 PM. Btw, if you use an RSS aggregator, and iTunes, you can automatically load this podcast into iTunes from within the aggregator.

As I work from a script, to ensure I don’t miss key details such as dates, times or locations, I’m posting the Lindsborg update for folks who would rather read than listen to the updates. It’s in the extended entry section below.

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, Saturday April 22nd is the 10th Annual Smoky Valley Artists’ Studio Open House in Lindsaborg. This annual event runs from 11am to 5pm and during this time many of the local area artists will be hosting an Open House at their studios. There is no charge to visit any of the participating studios.

Lindsborg artist Julie Unruh has graciously donated a 6” x 6” sun ceramic tile for a drawing as part of the days festivities. Other prizes will include a Lester Raymer book and the Christmas in Lindsborg CD. Registration forms for the drawing will be available at each participating studio.

The Smoky Valley Artists’ Studio Open House is a unique opportunity to visit the working studios, observe work in progress and purchase original artwork.

The arts have played a significant role in Lindsborg and the Smoky Valley since the area was settled. Today more than 60 visual artists and craftsmen are working in the Smoky Valley. Along with the studios that will be open on April 22nd you can also visit local art galleries, museums and retail stores that sell original artist’s work.

New this year, Small World Gallery will host a celebration featuring area authors and illustrators of children’s books. Children and their families are invited and there will be books available for sale at the event.

From 11:30 to 12:30 Lindsborg writer Ann Parr will be available to read from and sign her recently released children’s book, a biography titled “Gordon Parks: No Excuses”.

From 2 to 4pm illustrator Kathy Gregory of Assaria and writer Kathryn Toll of rural Lindsborg will read from and sign their children’s book, “Humboldt Trails”, a story of south American penguins.

Snacks suitable for kids, including mini-muffins and milk, will be served.

Flyers listing the studios will be available in downtown Lindsborg.

Till next week, this is Mike Rodriquez with the Lindsborg update.
