A blog about Lindsborg

Listen to the podcast of the Lindsborg Update from the 20th of January 2006 simply by clicking the previous link. The Lindsborg Update is a podcast of a weekly bit I do on a local radio station, KSAL 1150AM. The Lindsborg Update usually airs on Fridays, a couple of minutes after 12:30 PM. Btw, if you use an RSS aggregator, and iTunes, you can automatically load this podcast into iTunes from within the aggregator.

As I work from a script, to ensure I don’t miss key details such as dates, times or locations, I’m posting it for folks who would rather read than listen to the updates. It’s in the extended entry section below.

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, Saturday the 28th, Smoky Valley High School’s Mighty Viking theatre presents an evening of one act plays. Starting at 7:30 pm at the Smoky Valley Auditorium, the audience will be treated to two one-act plays, both directed by Smoky Valley seniors. The Ballad of Coyote Gulch and The Misfits are the two pieces being performed by these wonderful student thespians.

Friends of Bethany College will want to join Mark Lysell this Sunday, January 29th, from 2-5pm at the Swedish Country inn, downtown Lindsborg. He’s hosting a fundraiser for Bethany College; the theme is “sowing seeds for bright futures”.

Every year for the past 125 years Handel’s Messiah has been performed in Lindsborg during Easter week. This year continues the tradition, marking the 125th continuous year of performances. It turns out this is the longest continuing performance of the Messiah in all of North America.

If you’d like to be a part of this wonderful tradition, rehearsals for this year’s performance begin on Sunday, February 5th, at 3pm in Presser Hall. Part of what makes the Messiah performance special is the participation of so many local folks; if you’d like to become a part of the Messiah choir, please contact Daniel Mahraun, at 785 227 3311, ext 8334.

And finally, coming up tomorrow, January 28th,the Lindsborg Chamber of Commerce will be holding their annual meeting and banquet starting at 6:30pm. The event will be held in the dining room at Pihlbad Memorial Union, Bethany College. call 785 227-3706 for tickets; everyone is welcome.

Till next week, this is Mike Rodriquez w/the Lindsborg update.
