A blog about Lindsborg

Welcome to Lindsborg Town Talk, your source for news about upcoming events and activities in Lindsborg.

This Wednesday, September 17th it’s time for the 47th annual pit-roasted beef barbecue dinner hosted by the United Methodist Church in Marquette. It’s well worth the short drive from Lindsborg. Food is served from 5-8pm, and again, that’s at the Methodist Church in Marquette. A freewill offering is requested, and carry-out orders are available.

Eleanor Scott Meyers, a California artist who loves to paint while visiting the great plains, is the next Artist-in-Residence at the Red Barn Studio. She begins her tenure on September 15th, and will be in residence through the end of the month. Next Saturday, September 20th, she will be teaching her popular plein air painting workshop at the Red Barn; call 227-2217 for more information. Plein air painting means painting while outdoors, and was popular with French impressionists (yes, I had to look it up).

Now showing in the Bethany Home Hall Gallery are water color paintings by Julie Baldwin of McPherson. Paintings include landscapes showing the various seasons, as well as floral and other still-life works.

The Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery in Lindsborg is hosting a new show, Views of the Flint Hills, featuring oils and acrylics by Mary Binford Miller. The show runs through October 26th.

Congratulations are in order for both the Red Barn Studio and the Birger Sandzen Gallery. They are 2 of the 24 finalists in the Kansas Samplers 8 Art Wonders of Kansas. To vote for your favorite 8 Art Wonders of Kansas visit KansasSampler.org. There you will find full details about all 24 candidates as well as information on how to vote, whether it’s online or via paper ballot.

Irv Gordon and his multi-million mile Volvo were in Lindsborg recently as the Volvo Car Club held its annual gathering in conjunction with Lindsborg’s Midsummer’s celebration last June. Juliana found this press release and I wanted to pass it along; Lindsborg is in some good company in this listing! Here’s the quote about Lindsborg; the full article follows below the fold:

Lindsborg, Kan. (a.k.a. Little Sweden) “Lindsborg is a real taste of Sweden hidden 150 miles west of Kansas City. The town is beautiful, neat as a pin and the townsfolk are just as friendly as can be. Swedish pancakes and other specialties are served in almost every restaurant in town. Swedish Midsommer celebrations with Swedish folk dancing take place in June each year. Don’t forget to stop by the bison ranch nearby and check out the wildlife.”
