Broadway RFD. The name itself is a contrast between city and country and highlights the best of both worlds present at a Broadway RFD performance, high quality theater in a comfortable, small-town setting.
This year, the talented cast and crew of the midwest's longest running outdoor theater is presenting State Fair. Performances are in Swensson Park, starting at 8:30 pm on July 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th. Tickets are 6$ for adults and 4$ for children. Lindsborg Town Talk 28 June 2008
Welcome to Lindsborg Town Talk, your source for news about upcoming events and activities in Lindsborg.
I hope everyone who attended Midsummer's last weekend had a great time! If you missed it, or just want to re-live the experience, head over to the Midsummer's web site, midsummersday.org, where you'll find plenty of photos from last weekend.
This is a relatively quiet weekend in Lindsborg, though the sports minded may want to head down to the Lindsborg Municipal swimming pool between 9am and 1pm today where the Lindsborg Wavemakers swim team is hosting a swim meet.
Next weekend starts a day early, as we celebrate our country's independence on Friday, July 4th. Here in Lindsborg there will be an event at Swensson Park, starting at 6pm. There will be food, a performance by the Lindsborg Community Band, and more.
Lindsborg area residents who have enjoyed the fireworks display at Bethany College in past years should know that the location has changed this year. In 2008, the Lindsborg fireworks display will be 3.5 miles south of Lindsborg, on old hiway 81. Limited parking will be available at Smoky Valley Shooting Sports; carpooling is advised.
You can help support this fireworks display by purchasing an Old Fashioned Fourth of July t-shirt from the Chamber of Commerce and select locations throughout Lindsborg; the price is 10$.
Looking ahead just a bit, if it's summer, it must be time for Broadway RFD! This year, the talented cast and crew of the midwest's longest running outdoor theater is presenting State Fair. Performances are in Swensson Park, starting at 8:30 pm on July 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th. Tickets are 6$ for adults and 4$ for children. So, for more detailed information, goto midsummersday.org.
As usual, the Lindsborg youth and adult Swedish dancers will perform. But, in a twist, after their initial performances, the audience will be invited to participate. That's always a lot of fun.
New this year, visitors will experience a quaint Swedish village, featuring artists studios, settlers homes, a storyteller's den and a homemaker's kitchen.
There will also be a children's area with crafts, games and story-telling.
Two special guests will be featured: author Kathy Bernstrom and musician and story-teller John Berquist.
Other activities include a style show at the adjacent Bethany Lutheran Church.
In the northern part of Swensson Park the Volvo Car Club of America will host their regional rally; there will be a wide variety of Volvos on display, including one that has close to 3 million miles!
Visitors to Lindsborg are invited to join in a new event this year, the Midsummer's Interlude, in downtown Lindsborg from 4 until 7pm. There will be live music, featuring the band known as Mainstreet, Swedish food, games and shopping. While enjoying the interlude, folks can judge maypole entries created by many local businesses.
After that, folks are encouraged to head down to the Swedish Pavilion near the old Mill for the traditional raising of the Maypole, followed by traditional Swedish dances.

Lindsborg Update 15 June 2007
Hello everyone,
I hope you’re ready! This is the weekend of Lindsborg’s Midsummer’s celebration, and it begins tonight!
From 8 until 10pm Friday, June 15th, everyone is invited to downtown Lindsborg for a street dance to mark the beginning of Midsummer’s. From Sweden, the popular rock band Tiny Toads will be performing, and many downtown businesses will be open until 10pm for your shopping convenience. So, bring a lawn chair for good seating, and come to downtown Lindsborg and enjoy a fine evening with the Tiny Toads. A free will donation is requested, and in the event of rain the dance will be moved to the Lindsborg High School.
And tomorrow, Saturday June 16th, Lindsborg celebrates Midsummer’s! The fun begins at 9am in Swensson Park, continues through the dinner hour with the traditional smorgasbord meal and finishes with the raising of the maypole at Heritage Park near the Old Mill in south Lindsborg.
At Swensson Park you can enjoy the music of the Tiny Toads, watch both the youth and adult Swedish Dancers, shop at our fine arts and crafts fair, and dine at one of the many food vendors who will be on hand.
In addition, there will be a preview of this year’s Broadway RFD production of Damn Yankees, a comedy revue featuring Ole and Sven and a history of Swedish Folk dress.
Oh, and let’s not forget the kids! This year we have more children’s activities than ever before, including crafts, carnival type games, chalk drawing and much more! One of the special kids activities features weaving with an antique loom, hosted by Joyce Peterson at 10am and 1pm.
If you haven’t purchased your smorgasbord tickets yet, not to worry; they may be purchased at the Swedish Dancers Dala Van at Swensson park throughout the day.
Also, be sure to visit downtown merchants where you can enter a drawing for a chance to win a fine piece of artwork made by a local artist.
After dinner, be sure to head to Heritage Park for more music by the Tiny Toads, the traditional raising of the Maypole and more Swedish dancing!
If you’re still in town on Sunday afternoon, join the traditional Swedish Vespers service at the Bethany Lutheran Church, followed by a potluck dinner.
This Fathers Day weekend, why not celebrate with the whole family? Come to Lindsborg for Midsummer’s Day! Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for kids 10 and under. The celebration continues rain or shine, and will be moved to the Lindsborg High School in case of rain.

Lindsborg Update 13 April 2007
Hello everyone,
It’s great to be back, and I want to extend a big thank you to Chris for providing the Lindsborg Update during my absence.
Well, despite the recent snow, it is spring, and things are warming up here in town.
Tonight, Friday the 13th, the annual Methodist Women’s Spaghetti Supper will be held at the Methodist Church on south Main Street in Lindsborg. Take the night off from cooking, and support a good cause at the same time.
Tomorrow, live music returns once again to the Small World Gallery in downtown Lindsborg. Robin Macy and friends will be performing songs from their new album, “Songs from the Garden”. The music begins at 8pm, and admission is 10$ at the door. This is a great chance to hear some wonderful music in an intimate setting.
One of the cool things about the Red Barn Studio’s Artist in Residence program is that many artists return again and again. Starting April 17th, Sandy Milroy will begin her 4th stay at the Red Barn. In residence until April 30th, Sandy will continue her work using collage techniques.
And be sure to mark your calendars for the 28th of April! That’s the date of the 11th annual Lindsborg Area Artists Studio Open House. Many of the studios will be open from 11am until 7pm, and then at 8pm, the Heart of America Big Band will perform in the gymnasium at Soderstrom Elementary.
While you’re in town for the Artists Studio Open House, be sure to drop by the Lindsborg Library, where the Friends of the Lindsborg Library will be holding their annual book sale from 10am until 2pm. There will be 2000 books for sale, and the proceeds will help improve the library’s children’s area.
Looking ahead a little bit, we’ve got the Mill Fest coming up in early May, the 4th through the 6th, and then the weekend of June 16th, it’s time for the 31st annual celebration of Midsummer’s Day. Come hear the Swedish rock band Tiny Toads, and enjoy traditional Swedish dances, great food, an arts and crafts fair and more.
